First ever Beauty Contest in Southern Sudan - a challenge or a Joke?

For the ordinary person, a beauty pageant is an event where you get to see beautiful girls strutting their stuff, and to others it is simply a form of entertainment from the contestants - crying and all promising world peace!

THEME: BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE

To many of us Sudanese here in the South it is a challenge in many ways to hold the Miss New Sudan event.  Miss New Sudan Beauty Pageant is going to be the first of its kind since we have not held any pageant because of the war that has ripped, ravaged and destroyed lives and property and hence no one willing to organise it. The Organisers are determined to involve all Beauties from most if not all tribes of the South with the aim of developing the young ladies' beauty, culture and creativity. The organising comittee includes:
Mr. Tony Atiya Oryada - Chairperson
Ms. Patricia Wachata Gibril - Vice Chairperson
Mr. Kabonge Gonzaga Adrian - Co-ordinator
Ms. Rukiah Elias Kalsum - Treasurer
Mr. Kawadwa Eddie Yawe - Logistics
Mr. Moses Ayi Moses - Welfare

Miss New Sudan 2006 has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports, has the backing of Hon. John Luk Jok (M.P), and has Justice Modesto Edward Apinyi, Mr. Nobert Okaulo (LLB MUK), and Mr. Mayum Deng as its Legal advisors. We also have a panel of Judges from Sudan and beyond whose names have been kept confidential for the pupose of minimising irregularities.

However, Chrystal Labels, the organiser of this year's Miss New Sudan, has a lot to offer.  It is impossible to keep a good thing down.  In view of the above, beauty pageants do help the contestants in many ways:

  • Career Exposure
  • Opportunities for personal development and empowerment e.g. building the girls confidence
  • Certificates of participation
  • Pictures for portfolios
  • Recordings of the event for personal viewings or even to show the grand kids one day
  • Fame
  • Scholarships
  • Monetary prizes
  • Other gifts and prizes

This list is inconclusive as there are many other benefits.

Be tough people. Donnot be put down or off but rise to our National challenge!

We agree that it is indeed a challenge to organise an event like this and so we will rise up to it. This is so because we look forward to seeing the Miss New Sudan pageant become an annual event that we can all look forward to as a get together.
